Oh baby, I am the absolute queen of making the most out of any income tax or refund check. While it's not a terrible thing to spend your money on wants, these can be utilized as opportunities to get ahead, and help build towards that empire. So while you're waiting on your W-2's, here's three ways you can make the most out of your tax return.

1. Pay Down Debt

When receiving large lump-sums of money, one of the easiest ways to get ahead, or make a dent in the debt you've collected over the years is to pay it down or off. If you're strictly a minimum balance due kinda person, not only will this lessen your total balance due, but if paid off, it could increase your credit score as well.

2. Make investments

There has not been a tax return, or refund check to date that I have not used to make an investment on myself, or my future. For example, when I decided that I was going to start taking my brand and blog more seriously, I decided to invest in professional camera and lighting equipment., so that all of my photo content would be of good quality. Take a look at the projects that you're currently working on, or wanted to work on, but didn't have enough money to fund that dream. Blow the dust off of your aspirations, and take the step towards making them a reality by investing in yourself.

3. Get ahead of bills
Getting ahead of bills is always a good idea, and I'm sure most of us know what it feels like to be on the other side of that.

Though these are three ways that you can utilize this money to get ahead, I would be remiss if I didn't mention splurging (moderately) on yourself. You've worked hard, and deserve to have a want. So before your money comes, start thinking about what debt you can eliminate, and what investments you can make for yourself!
